COATNET gets prepared to yet another year fighting trafficking in human beings


  

The Network of Christian Organisations against Trafficking in Human Beings (COATNET) held its Annual Conference in Bucharest from the 8th to the 10th of October under the title “Strengthening the Ecumenical Actions against Contemporary Dynamics of Human Trafficking”, gathering more than 30 COATNET affiliates from around the world. This edition of the Annual Conference had a special relevance since it was the last one organised under the legal authority of Caritas Europa. As the Secretary General of Caritas Europa, Mr. Marius Wanders explained during his opening speech “…as the network [COATNET] has grown exponentially in recent years and increasingly also includes Christian organisations from outside Europe, it is fitting and appropriate that as of the 1st of January 2010 it will be embedded in the structures of Caritas Internationalis and will be operating under its legal authority ". .

Public hearing in Ukraine

 

On 30th June 2009 Caritas Ukraine, together with other 70 representatives of central governmental bodies, the legislature, non-governmental organizations and the media, participated to the public hearing organized by OSCE in Ukraine jointly with the Ukrainian Ministry for Family, Youth and Sports Affairs on the draft law "On Combating Trafficking in Human Beings".

Inaugural Workshop of Global Interfaith Alliance Against Human Trafficking


The workshop entitled "Global Human Trafficking: A Challenge To Inter-Faith Networking" was organized in  Nairobi, Kenya on 16 June 2009 by the Global Interfaith Alliance against Human Trafficking (GIFAAHT) - a multi religious group based in Kenya whose main objective is to stop human trafficking through the collaborated efforts of diverse religious affiliations worldwide. The group was founded in Kenya towards the end of 2008.
