The two "action oriented guides for awareness-raising and social assistance" were compiled by the CAT-project. The project
was carried out in two phases: from 01.11.02-30.11.03 and 1.12.03-31.3.05. Both brochures consist of different parts which
form a logical whole, but each part may be used separately:

In brochure I, a general introductory chapter (Chapter 3) briefly describes the socio-economic realities behind trafficking,
outlines a definition of what trafficking comprises, describes the framework of legislative initiatives against trafficking
and reflects upon the role of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO's) in the struggle against trafficking. Chapter 4 outlines
examples of the best practices for awareness-raising and assistance-giving. Chapter 5 contains some suggested readings and
useful links, websites and addresses. Chapter 6 introduces ten recommendations from CCME and Caritas for preventing, combating
and overcoming the trafficking in women - both on a practical and on a policy level. Chapter 7 contains acknowledgements to
those organisations and individuals without whom the project would not have been possible and Chapter 8 provides the names
and contact details of the participating organisations. This brochure is intended as working material for persons who have
a basic understanding of trafficking, who might be confronted with trafficked women in their work (e.g. medical staff, social
worker, church staff, public officials) or who want to know how they can help and want to know what needs to be done now.
It also is addressed at groups wanting to become active in the struggle against trafficking. The brochure can be downloaded
in several different languages.

The second brochure, which was presented in March 2005, provides more practical information and suggestions for activities
on priority issues such as security for trafficked persons, cooperation between governmental and non-governmental actors,
durable solutions for trafficked persons or return. The brochure so far is only available in English.

The third booklet is a result of the project “Trafficking in human beings - new challenges, new partnerships”, running from
November 2005 till January 2007. It aims at suggesting practical activities as well as debate among practitioners or those
interested in developing practice-based policies. A variety of issues, addressed in volume I and II of the guide, is only
briefly touched upon in the third volume of the action-oriented guide on anti-trafficking activities.
