There is no law in the Czech Republic regulating the stay of an au-pair in this country. The European Agreement on Au-pair Placement, issued by the European Council in 1969, has not been ratified in this country. In the Czech Republic a foreign woman may work as a domestic help only on the basis of an employment, for which it is necessary to obtain work and residence permits.

There are many au-pair agencies operating in our country, which provide for au-pair stays in western countries. However, their activities are not state controlled.
