By its Resolution No. 62 On the Program of Prevention and Control of Trafficking and Prostitution 2002-2004 dated January 17, 2002 the Government of the Republic of Lithuania approved of the Program of Prevention and Control of Trafficking and Prostitution 2002-2004. In the course of implementation of the program, it is intended to initiate joining the 1949 Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others and to work out the measures for realization of regulations of IV UN Women’s Conference.

By the Law No. 1-865 on Ratification of Convention for Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and Its Fourth, Seventh, and Eleventh Protocols, dated April 27, 1995, the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania ratified the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (Rome, November 4, 1950) and Protocols 4th, 7th, and 11th.

On December 13, 2000 in Palermo Lithuania signed International Convention Against Organized International Crime and its Protocols on prevention and prosecution of trafficking in human beings, especially in women and children, which has been ratified by the Parliament of Lithuania in April of 2002.

Lithuania also implements Recommendations of European Council Minister Committee for the EC states on trafficking in children and young people, their sexual exploitation, bluffing of witnesses, actions against trafficking in human beings for sexual exploitation.
