Human rights

As a member of the United Nations, Ukraine is obliged to protect human rights as set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights ("Universal Declaration") and other international instruments.

Ukraine ratified the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), and is bound by the provisions of the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women. Ukraine has also ratified the Convention on the Suppression of the Trafficking in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others ("Trafficking Convention") and the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, and the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, supplementing the Convention. The Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings was signed by the Ukrainian Government in 2005. These, as well as other documents, define the human rights obligations of Ukraine as members of the International community.
